East Jerusalem Hummus Wars 2023

Hummus Wars: The Secret al Quds 10th Anniversary Edition

Hummus from 3 different restaurants in East Jerusalem for a blind tasting competition.

The Secret al Quds community marked its 10th anniversary with a memorable gathering at Teddy Kollek Park, located on the seam of the Green Line near Jaffa Gate. The event, dubbed “Hummus Wars,” brought together long-time members and newcomers for a day of celebration, reflection, and, of course, great food.

Hummus Wars: The Competition

The highlight of the day was the “Hummus Wars,” a competition between two well-known hummus restaurants and a less-known wildcard: Abu Shukri and Lina from the Old City, and Islamic Family Restaurant from Qalandiya. Attendees participated in a blind tasting, judging the hummus based on taste, texture, and overall quality, before voting for their favorite, which is the Islamic Family Restaurant! Way to go!

Getting to Know You Bingo

In addition to the hummus tasting, we hosted a “Getting to Know You Bingo” game. This activity encouraged members to mingle, share stories, and discover common interests, helping to strengthen the bonds within our community.

Food and Venue

Beyond the competition, the event featured a variety of salads and professionally designed fruit platters, showcasing the culinary diversity and creativity of our community. The choice of Teddy Kollek Park as the venue, with its significant location and scenic views, underscored the event’s theme of unity and celebration.

The 10th-anniversary celebration was more than just an event; it was a testament to the enduring spirit of the Secret al Quds community. Through activities like the “Hummus Wars” and “Getting to Know You Bingo,” members not only celebrated a decade of shared experiences but also looked forward to fostering new connections and creating more memories together.
