Palestinian Cooking Class – Stuffed Grape Leaves
In this three-part event offered exclusively to Secret al Quds members we:
1. Learned how to make stuffed grape leaves (waraq dawali) in this Palestinian cooking class.
2. Competed in a roll-off! The winner, Lyndsey M. won the prized champion apron!
3. Ate! Enjoyed a Palestinian lunch of stuffed grape leaves, salad, and dessert.
We had a delightful culinary journey in the heart of Beit Hanina on Saturday, June 15th, 2024.
Participants dove into the rich flavors of Palestine with a special cooking class dedicated to the traditional art of making stuffed grape leaves, known as Waraq Dawali.
The 2-3 hour session, led by Em Yehia and Nadia Abu Ata (Nadia Knows), not only taught the techniques but also included a friendly competition to see who could roll the perfect grape leaf. The winner proudly took home a special “Winner’s Apron”!
After the class, everyone savored a scrumptious Palestinian lunch featuring Waraq Dawali, refreshing salad, and the sweet finish of Mahlabia. Those who stayed for the finished product of the class got to take home a vegetarian version of stuffed grape leaves, Palestinian style.
This culinary adventure equipped attendees with skills to impress their loved ones … and all put Em Yehia’s American daughter-in-law to shame with their rolling skills … all in good fun.
Stay tuned for the next culinary workshop/Palestinian cooking class!
